From Material Properties to Practical Applications.

We connect material selection, surface functions, product design and fabrication with the way each application is used. Panel grade, finish, exposure and assembly are coordinated to define a practical route from requirements to production.

Material and surface choices become product featuresA slim worktop on supports, a storage cabinet and one flat machined play panel represent three uses. The play panel has a curved outer profile, rounded corners, two open handholds and a thin exposed edge. One selected area of the worktop connects to a circular enlargement showing fine surface texture and a restrained reflection. The flat panel is shaped at its perimeter, not bent.

What We Engineer

Six connected engineering areas turn application requirements, material properties and performance needs into practical specifications.

Material & Panel Configuration

Select the material family, core, grade and thickness around component weight, stiffness and dimensional change. Define the panel configuration for the chosen surface, dimensions and support conditions.

Typical outputMaterial and panel specification

Surface & Functional Engineering

Develop a surface brief covering colour, decorative design, embossed, matt or gloss finishes, and requirements for touch, friction, wear and cleaning. Define a manufacturable surface specification with the panel manufacturer and review samples for the intended contact.

Typical outputSurface brief and sample review

Environmental & Durability Engineering

Define indoor, sheltered or outdoor conditions, including UV exposure and requirements for colour stability. Match the panel grade, surface and product geometry to heat, moisture, chemicals and cleaning, with drainage and movement considered together.

Typical outputExposure and durability requirements

Product Design & Fabrication

Develop component shapes, edges, holes, cut-outs and hardware preparation into drawings and a fabrication brief. Review CNC feasibility with fabricators, resolve part divisions and sheet use, and refine the design through trial machining and prototypes.

Typical outputComponent drawings and fabrication brief

Assembly & Installation

Coordinate supports, fixings, joints and interfaces for furniture, storage, partitions or building assemblies. Develop the connections around component loads, movement, installation access and future disassembly.

Typical outputAssembly and interface details

Validation & Service Life

Review samples and prototypes against repeated use, contact, cleaning and the selected performance requirements. Plan inspection, repair, replacement and disassembly, and link product and assembly evidence to applicable requirements, including fire performance.

Typical outputValidation plan and maintenance requirements

Configuring a Panel for Its Use

Compact Laminate connects panel construction with the surface, contact and geometry a product needs.

A compact laminate panel is configured through its grade, thickness, decorative design and surface finish. We coordinate these choices with manufacturers and fabricators so that contact, cleaning, exposure and product geometry are considered together.

Related core families can support different panel configurations; core composition and performance still depend on the selected product. Thickness, component size and weight are considered alongside stiffness, openings and supports.

Panel structure, surface choices and product geometryA slim panel section shows one consolidated core with a thin surface boundary. Three equal sample faces are labelled Decor, Texture and Finish: fine decorative pattern lines, a small repeating tactile texture, and diffuse and smooth reflected light. A shared guide groups these combinable surface choices. A separate guide from the panel section also leads to one thin machined component with a rounded through-opening. The samples are specification choices, not layers being attached to the component. DecorTextureFinish
Structure, surface choices and shapeA panel section, studies of decor, texture and finish, and a machined component show how specification choices shape the product.

Surface function

Design for the actual contact.

Decorative colour and printed design, texture formed by press plates, and functional or protective surface construction are distinct choices. Some products use an overlay; an identical extra film is not part of every panel. We coordinate the selected construction and finish with the manufacturer, then review how samples feel, reflect light and respond to wear, dirt and cleaning.

Embossed, matt and gloss describe surface choices, not a guaranteed friction value. Review the actual contact material in dry, wet, contaminated and worn conditions, including the cleaning method. A handhold or foot contact may need grip, while a sliding component needs controlled friction suited to that movement.

Exposure & durability

Connect the grade to its environment.

Exterior-grade panels and their manufactured surface construction are selected around UV exposure, colour retention, rain and wet–dry cycling. Solar heat, humidity and dimensional movement also influence the shape, drainage and assembly of cladding, outdoor furniture and play components.

An indoor panel does not become an exterior-grade product by adding an unspecified UV coating. UV curing describes a manufacturing process; resistance to UV exposure is a performance requirement. Review the selected grade and finish together with water traps, drying, cleaning and the maintenance conditions of the finished product.

One material family. Different design priorities.

These configuration examples show how use requirements change the product brief.

School desk or furniture component

A surface for work and contact

Balance writing feel and reflected light with hand contact, wear and repeated cleaning. Connect the selected thickness and supports to the desk size, and develop comfortable edges around the component shape.

Review & handoverSurface samples, edge and component geometry, fabrication and assembly conditions.

Laboratory worktop

A surface around the working process

Identify chemicals, concentrations, contact times and cleaning before selecting the surface grade. Equipment loads and sink or service openings shape the cut-outs, support arrangement and fabrication details.

Review & handoverChemical and cleaning requirements, selected-product evidence, cut-out and support drawings.

Outdoor play component

A surface for its particular movement

Start with UV, rain and solar heat, then distinguish hand and foot grip from sliding functions. Review edges, gaps and repeated use through the component geometry and a prototype of the proposed assembly.

Review & handoverExposure conditions, surface requirements by contact area, prototype and assembly review.

Engineering Across Applications

The application defines the engineering questions. Explore all ten areas through their current project and use conditions.

Locker & Storage Systems

Develop doors and shelves around their loads, ventilation, locking, repeated use and cleaning, with replaceable components.

Laboratory Surface Systems

Match the surface grade to chemical and stain contact, then coordinate equipment loads, cut-outs and service connections.

Exterior Cladding Systems

Bring UV and colour retention requirements together with solar heat, movement, wind loads, drainage, ventilation and fixings.

Playground & Outdoor Systems

Distinguish grip and sliding functions for hand and foot contact; review edges, gaps, sunlight, wet conditions and repeated use.

Custom Project Applications

Define a new use, combine material and surface requirements, and coordinate trial fabrication, prototypes and manufacturing.
